Siona's Art Explained - The Story Behind the Blue

Siona grew up in a small Jewish community in predominantly Hindu and Muslim India, and now lives in the US.  Her paintings are inspired by the imageries of her past from multicultural India, and of her present from an increasingly diverse America.

Throughout her art Siona uses a consistent shade of blue. To Siona, the blue represents being different, and personally, a jewish woman of color. In Siona’s words “blue could be the color of the sky and the ocean that stretches all over the world, so I could belong ‘Everywhere and Nowhere’ at the same time.  I paint for those who feel different, so they know they are not alone, and together we are stronger."

Siona believes that many American women who embrace the beauty of the racially diverse and multicultural America could identify with her art.
